Mould is an unsightly type of fungus that thrives in moisture. Due to it thriving in moist conditions, it often grows in areas that are prone to getting wet or humid. Bathrooms, kitchens, and basements are the most common breeding grounds for mould.
Once you spot mould it’s important to act as soon as possible – use a mould cleaner to stop it spreading and remove it completely. It is best to use a product specifically formulated for mould removal as it’s safer than using homemade methods.
HOW DOES MOULD GROW?
Moulds are microorganisms that can grow on most surfaces if they are moist enough. They reproduce via tiny spores. These spores aren’t visible to the human eye and float through the air both indoors and outdoors. When these spores land on a wet surface, mould can start to grow and reproduce.
HOW TO SPOT MOULD
Mould can vary in colour. It can be white, grey, brown, green or black. It tends to grow in early spring and late autumn.
WHERE CAN MOULD GROW?
Mould grows on moist surfaces – it can grow on pretty much any surface that can get wet. It’s likely to form around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or any areas that have flooded. It can form on walls near condensed windows, floors and ceilings. It is also prevalent on boats due to the wet conditions.
HEALTH PROBLEMS FROM MOULD
It’s important to get rid of mould or mildew as soon as possible as it can cause health problems.
The NHS says, “If you have damp and mould in your home you’re more likely to have respiratory problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma. Damp and mould can also affect the immune system.”
HOW TO GET RID OF MOULD
You need to use a high quality mould cleaner to remove mould, such as 303 Mould & Mildew Cleaner + Blocker. When removing mould always wear protective eyewear and gloves. Make sure the area is adequately ventilated, with the nearest windows wide open. Also avoid breathing in any vapours.
When using your product spray it directly onto the affected surface and scrub with a soft bristle brush or microfibre towel. Allow the product to penetrate the surface for one to two minutes. Then wipe and rinse off with a clean, damp microfibre towel.
303 Mould & Mildew Cleaner + Blocker quickly and safely cleans and removes tough mould and mildew stains from virtually any water-safe surface. It’s effective and safe to use on vinyl, plastic, painted surfaces and fabric.
Many other mould cleaning products contain bleach but this doesn’t, giving you a safer alternative. It leaves no strong odours during or after use and it leaves behind a fresh scent.
HOW TO PREVENT MOULD AND STOP IT COMING BACK
It’s important to try and keep surfaces that are prone to getting wet as dry as possible. Dehumidifiers, fans, and open windows will help to reduce moisture in your home. 303 Mould & Mildew Cleaner + Blocker is also a great prevention tool, as it not only cleans mould but it stops it from re-occurring. With every use you’re reducing the odds that a mould or mildew stain will start to form again.
